Introduction of Short-term Chinese Programs at CICEHU
I. Introduction of CICE:
Hainan University, financially supported by both Ministry of Education and Hainan Provincial Government, is the only comprehensive and key university of Hainan Province. In September 1996, Ministry of Education authorized the university to admit foreign students. Ever since then, more than 1000 foreign students from about 20 countries and regions have studied Chinese here. We have not only accumulated sufficient experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, but also had a good reputation for excellent teaching. On the basis of these achievements, in June 2006, Hainan University founded her fourteenth college in charge of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and Chinese studies as well-- College of International Cultural Exchange (CICE).

The college is authorized to take charge of teaching, registration and management of international students. The faculties are professional and experienced in teaching and dedicated themselves to both teaching and research on TCFL, Chinese language and culture. The establishment of the college marks an important leap for Hainan University. It will not only promote cultural and academic exchange and cooperation with universities and research institutes in foreign countries and regions, but also offer more opportunities for foreign universities to visit our university in order to seek bilateral or multilateral cooperation. We have actively reached out to establish relationships with overseas over 30 universities with great achievements, such as Hawaii University, University of Perpignan, Nanyang, Technological University, etc.

We offer some short-term programs for foreign people and overseas Chinese who are interested in China and Chinese culture. Through a-period-of-time learning and travelling, international students will have a better understanding of China and an overall impression upon her more than five-thousand-year history and brilliant civilization as well as her rapid development that have taken place since 1978 when China started adopting the open policy to the outside world.
